The Benefits of Meditation

Meditation is more than just a hot trend. Researchers have discovered extensive and measurable health benefits from this ancient, yet misunderstood practice. And it’s not hard to understand why. All of us are running from one fire to another, it seems. Our brains are always in overdrive. When you stop to think about it, the brain is really the hardest-working organ in the body, and it deserves a rest from time to time.

There’s an intimidation factor surrounding meditation, but it’s much easier than you think. You don’t have to join a particular religion, twist yourself into a pretzel, chant or sit still with a clear mind for hours on end to reap the benefits. Even 10 minutes a day can make a difference in your life. This is about more than just relaxing; you have the power to change the way your brain processes information – and the effects can be profound.

Benefits of Meditation

Emotional

Meditation helps regulate your mood, in part because it helps lower your emotional response. The things that used to rattle you may now simply wash over you. A study by the University of Wisconsin-Madison discovered that meditation actually triggers a reduction in the gray matter of the brain that’s associated with a decrease in mood. Harvard University neuroscientists, meanwhile, found an increase in the gray matter associated with sense of self and perspective. With better perspective comes greater compassion and empathy. Meditation largely focuses on gratitude, which helps keeps us grounded and, quite simply, real.

Social

When you have greater compassion for others, you feel less lonely in this world and more inclined to make connections with others. Your emotional intelligence – your capacity to be self-aware, control and express your emotions and handle interpersonal relationships appropriately — increases. According to MentalHealthDaily.com, “there is evidence that meditation has the potential to change aspects of your potential – likely for the better.” Researchers suggest that meditators “accept a greater sense of responsibility, are more likely to maintain authenticity, compassion, and accept themselves. Frequent mindfulness meditation is associated with increases in personality traits of openness and extroversion.”

Physical

Meditation has been linked to increased immunity and the reduction of general aches and discomforts. It’s also been credited with reducing stress, bone density support, promoting fat loss, clearer skin, and better regulation of blood sugar levels.

Cognitive

Meditation increases the brain’s capacity for self-control, focus and attention, along with memory and creativity. As you age, the area of your brain that manages memory and decision-making shrinks – but meditation may be able to prevent that shrinkage. At the same time, your meditation practice is building gray matter in key areas of your brain, which means you’re increasing your brain’s capacity. You’re not getting older; you’re getting smarter!

With meditation, what you’re really doing is clearing the clutter from your brain and leaving behind calm and clarity. And, given our crazy lives, couldn’t we all use a little less clutter?

Getting Started with Meditation

So if all of that evidence is convincing enough for you, how do you get started?

First, find a quiet spot – anyplace where you won’t be disturbed for at least 10 minutes. Find a seat either on the floor or in a chair, if you prefer. Set a timer, if you want. Then close your eyes, and begin to focus on your breath, inhaling and exhaling through the nose. As the day’s intrusive thoughts enter your mind, acknowledge them as an observer, but don’t engage. Let them come and go as you continue to focus on your breath. Aim to perform this practice every day. Over time, you’ll notice that it gets easier.

And if you prefer not to sit in a room, feel free to take your meditation outside. You might even decide to take your meditation to go, as you take a leisurely walk.

There aren’t any hard and fast rules here. The key is just to get started. One last tip: Your meditation practice is your time – honor yourself by not letting anything interrupt this investment in your health.

When I look at these 2 pictures, I can’t even believe this is me in both pictures.

The old picture is from years ago. My boys were in diapers, we moved across the country where we knew no one.

I was so lonely, sad and miserable and I reallllly didn’t like myself. We were sooo in debt, had lived on food stamps twice already. I tried coloring my hair myself with a box of dye from Walmart... and the pic shows I didn’t do it right! 🙈 and honestly I couldn’t even muster up the energy to care, let alone fix it.

Talk about STRUGGLING & MAKING IT HARD...

I can see it in my eyes.

It was a really rough time, and I hated looking in the mirror because I felt so pathetic and inadequate.

Our marriage was on the rocks, but we were both too busy and exhausted to face it.

One day, I woke up and bawled my eyes out and prayed that God show me a way out!

Did He ever!

Mindset Matters: Getting Inside the Head of Successful Entrepreneurs

When you think about the highest earning entrepreneurs, people like Chalene Johnson, Russell Brunson, and Marie Forleo, what comes to mind? Charisma, experience, and expertise are often at the top of the list, but would it surprise you to know that those are not the most important characteristics?

In fact, while those things do help attract and keep an audience, there’s one thing that is absolutely critical to their success, and you can’t even see it.

Mindset.

It’s true. In everything you do, whether in business or in life, your mindset is the determining factor when it comes to your success. Your entrepreneurial plans are no different. Without the right mindset, you will forever be attracting and working with customers and team members who—while deserving and lovely—are less than your ideal when it comes to their ability to pay (or perform).

So before you can realize your dreams of a tribe that inspires you as much as you inspire them, you have to do some internal work. You have to make some changes to your own mindset, to be more in line with what the top earners in your industry already do and feel.

Changing Your Attitude

One thing charismatic and personable people have in common is a good attitude. Think about it; you’ll never see Chalene Johnson or Russell Brunson complaining about how the kids are sick, “again!” or that the cable repair guy is 40 minutes late, or even that the car blew a tire.

Instead, you see their expressions of gratitude in everything. If the kids are sick, they’re grateful to have a business that allows them to stay home and play nurse. If the cable guy is late, they’re grateful to have 40 extra minutes to read a book instead of watch television. And if the car died in the middle of running a week’s worth of errands, they’re happy to have found a mechanic who does great work at a reasonable price.

If you find yourself complaining—even in your head—turn your attitude around. There’s nearly always something to be grateful for, even in the worst situations. And when you can rethink and revise your attitude for the better, you’ll not only be happier, but you’ll attract a better audience, too.

Growing Your Confidence

Here’s something else top-earning entrepreneurs have in common: confidence. They believe in what they do. They believe in their ability to help others achieve the same thing. They walk into an event or hop on a Facebook LIVE video filled with the knowledge that what they are about to say will change the lives of those who are listening.

It’s not cocky or arrogant, it’s just confidence. And if you don’t have it yet, you can take steps to increase it.

Start by asking yourself, in any new or uncomfortable situation, “What’s the worst that could happen?” Of those worst-case scenarios, resolve what you have control over, and let the rest go. So if you’ve agreed to speak in front of a crowd, and your fear is that you’ll flub your presentation, practicing beforehand will greatly improve your confidence.

Next, get inside the head of someone who is confident in what you’re about to do. Come out as if you’ve been doing it for years, and not only will you feel more confident, but you’ll be more confident. You can use the “as if” attitude in everything from prospecting a new person to following up to close a sale. Whenever you feel your confidence failing, just remember to act as if you’ve done this successfully hundreds of times.

Just like how the person you’re talking to on the phone can hear a smile in your voice, your potential customers and team members can sense your mindset. And if it’s not up to the standards of the top earners in your niche, you’ll struggle to make the sale. Work on your attitude and confidence levels, and watch your income soar!

Finding the Balance (and Keeping It)

Work-life balance: the term is sort of cliché, but all of us struggle with it, don’t we?

No matter if you’re working in an office setting full time or part time, you work from home, you’re a stay-at-home mom juggling the demands and schedules of your children, you’re squeezed for time.

And, let’s face it, when you’re short on time, self-care takes the back burner.

Are we really busier, or does it just seem like we are? Certainly, technology is hogging a lot of our time. Those smartphones and tablets tempt us to “check in” first thing in the morning, during breakfast, on the drive in to work, during meetings and conference calls, while you’re sitting at your child’s soccer practice and during your evening hours. While technology isn’t the only cause of our work-life imbalance, nobody can deny that it’s a prime suspect.

Ready to reclaim your time and your life?

Start setting some boundaries with the following tips:

Become a list-maker

If you don’t keep a calendar of the week’s events, your commitments will pop up on you, catching you off-guard and leaving you feeling overwhelmed. Or, if you’ve forgotten about a commitment, you might end up scheduling another conflicting one. Skip the confusion – keep an online calendar that issues reminders, and make a daily list of tasks. You can even go old school and write your task list, then enjoy the satisfaction of crossing off each item as it’s completed.

Write a letter

It’s all too easy to send a quick email to thank someone for a gift, or to say hello. Challenge yourself to sit down and put pen to paper. This slower process forces you to be more mindful about what you’re going to say, and we can guarantee that your recipient will love that you took the time to write.

Tame the technology beast

Our phones are a necessary evil, but you don’t have to be chained to yours. The constant chiming of our phones – signaling an incoming email or text – puts us on call 24 hours a day. Silence your phone when you arrive home at night. If you absolutely must check it, give yourself a designated time to review and respond to messages, preferably after your children are asleep.

Insist on being present

Feel like you spend your day split in 100 directions, but you’re not really focused on any of them? Turn your phone on silent during meetings, and keep it out of sight. Keep the radio off on the car when you’re driving the kids to school, and bring back the lost art of conversation. Used to eating lunch at your computer? Try focusing on your meal instead. Studies show that distracted eating leads to greater calorie consumption, a sedentary lifestyle and, ultimately, weight gain.

Skip the guilt

Remember: you’re under no obligation to say yes to everything. Particularly if you’re a parent, you’re going to receive numerous opportunities to volunteer at school and during extra-curricular events. And because those opportunities are so plentiful, that’s all the more reason why you can say no often and yes only occasionally – when you know you have room in your schedule. When you say no, don’t offer a reason. A “thank you, but I’m afraid I can’t this time” is sufficient. No explanation needed. (Now doesn’t that feel great?)

And here’s another tip: If you have to grab store-bought cookies for the school party, tell the kids to eat cereal for dinner or pick up take-out for the office potluck, give yourself permission to buy convenience.

Always say yes to your health

You can’t take on the world if you don’t take care of yourself. Whenever it’s possible, strive for adequate sleep, daily exercise, an 80/20 approach to eating (80 percent veggies and fruits, lean meats and fish, nuts, whole grains, legumes, dairy; 20 percent wiggle room), plenty of water, and the appropriate supplements that help you operate at your best.

Maintaining work-life balance is a lifelong struggle, but if you set your boundaries and stick to them, you’ll be happier and healthier for it.

Creating a Healthy Routine

The Fall and winter seasons can bring a lot of emotions for people. As it gets colder, those pitch-black mornings make it harder than ever not to give into the urge to roll over and go back to sleep.  With the fall now in full swing, it’s a great time to create some healthy habits that can help you stay on track through the rest of the year.

Commit to better planning.

Keeping up with everyone’s schedules is downright difficult – especially if you’re a parent. Get yourself a whiteboard calendar, and have a quick family meeting on Sunday evenings. Write down everything – work, school and sports commitments, evening meetings, etc. — so there are no surprises or missed appointments.

Sleep.

Aim for seven to eight hours a night if possible. Create a relaxing bedtime routine, and wind down before you head to bed. Keep your mobile devices out of your bedroom and make it a technology-free zone, if possible.

Start the day with intention.

When your alarm first goes off in the morning, remind yourself how much better you’ll feel if you take some time to yourself to start your day on a positive note. With that in mind, don’t hit the snooze button. Get up, and take five minutes to stretch or meditate.

Hydrate.

It’s not hard to stay hydrated during the hot summer months, but when temperatures fall, a cold glass of water may be the last thing you want. Yet, staying hydrated is incredibly important for your energy levels and overall health. For some variety, try hot water with lemon and organic honey.

Try a new exercise.

In an exercise rut? Try something new outdoors. Join an early morning or evening bootcamp class in your community (many are held in shopping center parking lots or parks). Discover a new walking, running or biking path. Take a nature hike. Or simply take the dog for a walk in the evening, and breathe in the nighttime air.

Enjoy the outdoors.

Make it a point to spend even 10 minutes daily outside. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average American spends 93 percent of his or her life indoors. Time outside increases your exposure to Vitamin D (“the sunshine vitamin”). Light and outdoor exercise can elevate your mood, lower blood pressure, fight depression, reduce inflammation, boost immunity, improve short-term memory, heighten creativity and reduce your stress levels. A 2008 study of children with ADHD even found that being outside can improve your concentration.

Aim for 80/20.

At this time of year, maintaining healthy eating habits is a challenge. So cut yourself some slack. Don’t go for perfection. Instead, commit to staying on track 80 percent of the time, and give yourself wiggle room the remaining 20 percent of the time. That 20 percent can include your office parties, holiday get-togethers, family dinners and other special occasions. During those events, focus on loading up your plate with veggies, but if that pecan pie is calling your name, treat yourself. When it comes to your healthy lifestyle, it’s the big picture that counts.

I am allowed to love big!
I am supported!
I am open to receive!

Did you say that out loud?

If not, go back and try it. Try it while looking in the mirror, in your own eyes. Experience the depth of your soul. And the infinite possibility THAT IS WITHIN YOU!

What you DON’T see.

I found this picture today on my phone from back in the day when I first started my network marketing business and our nutritional products.

I had to share it with you all because many of you met me after I started my current business, after we paid off all of our debt, and after we were recognized as millionaires in our network marketing company.

AFTER.

I want to share about BEFORE.

At the time of this picture, we didn’t even have enough money to pay our bills, so we always kept the house at 60°. It was so cold, I had to wear that jacket all the time.

Also do you see those carpet squares? That was the first “rug” that I ever bought. Notice I didn’t even buy a rug — I bought carpet squares to save money.

I know that because of what you may see on social media, it may seem that there was luck involved in my success, or a huge list, or timing.

Not exactly.

It was doing calls from a cold house, with two small boys that I home-schooled, while my husband worked, and with over $100,000 of debt looming over our heads.

It was consistency, prospecting, rejection, calls, follow ups, events, showing up even when it wasn’t convenient, and sharing my experience on video. It was WORK.

I say all this (and show you this super non-glamorous picture) to remind you to STOP comparing YOUR chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20!

Self Care Routines for Moms

Moms… sometimes we can get into a bit of tunnel-vision of taking care of OTHERS, and in constant go-go-go mode…that we quite literally forget to slow down and breathe.

Have you noticed this?

Do you ever find yourself saying that the reason WHY you cannot take care of yourself (or work your home based network marketing business) is because of your family?

I want to challenge you to make your reason why not, the reason why you must!

SELF-CARE ISN’T SELFISH!

Self-care does not necessarily need to be vacations, expensive dinners, or spa treatments.

It could literally mean taking a 20 minute walk around the block. Spending 5 extra minutes to put a cleansing mask on your face. Taking the time to get dressed and put yourself together even if you’re not going anywhere. Take high quality premium supplements and fuel your body with nutrition first thing in the morning.

Too many moms put their needs last. Instead of spending the time or money to get what they need to fill their soul (or nourish their bodies), they pour everything they have onto others and accept the leftovers.

Why is that? Is it the desire to feel like a martyr? Is it noble? Is it an excuse?

Whatever the reason, we as moms need to learn to fill our own cup FIRST. The ironic thing is, when we do this, we end up with MORE to pour out for others.

Break free from your prison

You must slow down enough to work through the things that trigger you. Write in a journal about what makes you feel upset, and why.

When you do this, you will harness the power of your mind and break free from the shackles of limiting beliefs and self-doubt.

We can transform our lives when we ask more questions about why we feel a certain way, versus telling ourselves a story about why we feel that way. Do you see the difference?

Your mind & your subconscious do not ever want to be in misalignment.
The important factor is that your subconscious will ALWAYS WIN.
Think about that. You MUST work more on your subconscious mind!


Your MIND can control:
How much self love you have for yourself
The level of service you will give to the world
The abundance of money that will flow into your life

Clear Your Subconscious Mind and have DAILY practices to do so.

Okay, you may call the woo-woo police, but I am DEAD SERIOUS… you need to RE-WIRE YOUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND. It's literally the most important thing we can do. Your brain does NOT want to be out of sync with your subconscious mind, and it will go to WORK day in and day out to make sure it’s in alignment with whatever your deepest thoughts are. Meditation is the fastest way to do it on your own. Having a daily practice is a NON-NEGOTIABLE and what we believe will change the world. If more people cleared their subconscious and got rid of the junk and traumas so many people are walking around with the world would be a MUCH more loving place. Don't dim your light!

Your dreams are more important than other people’s opinions!

I'm sure you have heard motivational speakers say,"your dreams are more important than other people’s opinions.”

It’s certainly easier to read those words and nod your head along in agreement than to actually LIVE them out isn't it?

We do a communal rally-cry of sisterhood and shout: "HECK YA! My dreams are important! I will not be silenced! Who cares what 'they' think or say about me!

...and then, as we emerge from our princess warrior bubble, it hits us:

What if I really do care?

I feel you, sister.

Other people’s opinions can get the best of us if we’re not careful.

There will ALWAYS be nay-sayers along the path to success.

The reality is... some people want you to dim your light because THEY are afraid to shine.

If someone is telling you to do anything other than shine bright, those aren't your people!

The sooner you learn to tune them out, the happier you will be!

Don’t dim your light just because others are afraid to shine!

People want the authentic version of YOU.

The you that they can see themselves becoming friends with.

The you that they can trust.

The you that is real and transparent.

People want to vibe with a tribe that’s REAL through it all including the dreams, screams, and in-betweens!

The crazy part of it all, is that you will attract an amazing tribe of people to you, with way less friction and effort, when you are just... YOU.

Stepping through the wall of your fears and into the abundance of what God has called you to be is quite often the scariest move you'll make. But, worth it.

Building your network marketing team online vs. offline

I LOVE TECHNOLOGY!

Have you ever thought about this incredible world we live in where with one click of a button we can connect with people around the entire world?!

I run my business online and through my phone, many times using video to have “face to face” conversations and trainings with our team. It never gets old being able to connect with hundreds of people through an online device!

Let me assure you, that NOTHING beats the face-to-face relationships you’ll build when you physically are present with your team. The power of a hug or a handshake is huge.

That is why I host Team Retreats several times per year to train, equip, empower, and uplevel our team in mind, body, and spirit. We are literally building a tribe.

We pray together, eat together, train together.

Together, we rise.

Running a multi-million dollar business from home isn’t always EASY, but let me tell you, I sure feel BLESSED every single second of it all!

Foods That Will Raise Your Energy

The saying is true… you are what you eat!

It is very true that foods have an emotional & physical energy around them. In my experience, living and raw foods such as plants and raw fruit will make you feel more alive.

Processed and dead food such as chemical-laden packaged foods or meat can bring you down. I always try to eat foods that will fuel my body, and give me energy!

Below you will find my suggestions for foods that bring up your energy — physically, emotionally, and spiritually… and foods that will weigh you down.

Foods that weigh you down — AKA “Low vibe” foods:

  • Genetically modified (GMO) food, and conventional food that has been treated with chemicals and pesticides

  • Sugars and sweeteners (artificial)

  • Coffee

  • Soda

  • Alcohol

  • Meat, fish, poultry

  • Processed, packaged, canned, and fast food

  • Unhealthy oils, like canola, cottonseed, margarine, and vegetable oils

  • Frozen foods

  • Pasteurized cow’s milk, yogurt, and cheese

  • Cooked foods, deep fried foods, and microwaved food

Foods that will give you energy — AKA “high vibe” foods:

  • Fresh, certified organic fruits and vegetables

  • Natural supplements

  • Herbal teas

  • Herbs and spices

  • Pure or filtered water — reverse osmosis or freshly collected spring water are best

  • Healthy oils, like olive oil and coconut oil

  • Nuts and seeds

  • Fermented foods

  • Raw chocolate

  • Raw honey and maple syrup

  • Legumes

  • Grains such as buckwheat, brown rice, amaranth, and spelt

QUICK TIP: We do meatless Mondays at our house, and we cook with primarily organic fruits and veggies as well as from our local farmers markets whenever possible!

You must continue to grow. Evolve. Get with the times. Every day, you have a choice to make. Growth can be uncomfortable, and it can feel painful.
 
Whether you’re trying to grow a business, mend a broken relationship, improve your health, etc... you get to design the way you choose to live.
 
The choice is whether or not the long term result is worth the short term challenge of being uncomfortable. Only you can decide that. Sometimes you may have to make that choice 287 times per day!
 
Oftentimes I share this quote when I coach others striving for success:

Don’t blame. Don’t shame. Don’t justify.
 
Own your life as it stands, recognize that your situation is merely a circumstance, and circumstances are changeable... when you own it.
 
If you don’t like where your life is, if you don’t like how your day looks, if you don’t like where you’re headed...start doing what you can to change it.
 
That process never involves shifting blame onto others or justifying your actions... just own it and start making the changes that YOU can control.

Know what you stand for!
 
I want you to write out your mission statement and values before the day is over.
 
Post your mission statement near your computer or Live setup... so that when you go LIVE you are reminded of WHO YOU ARE! ♡
Be AUTHENTIC. Be YOURSELF.
 
Don’t try to be like everyone else. You have permission to be comfortable with who you are.

You hear me talk about journaling a lot, but let me clarify something important.

Journaling is not like writing in your diary when you were 8, documenting what you ate for lunch (that's Instagram, for some people, ha) or how you have a crush on Johnny but he doesn't even notice you.

Journaling is not just wistfully writing into your journal and hoping that your journal-fairy sprinkles magic success dust over your life and ✨ ta-daaa ✨ you’re now successful!

Ahhh no.

What it is, however, is documenting what’s working, what’s not working, what you feel, why you feel that way, owning it, overcoming it, and speaking affirmations over yourself based on what you want to see.

It is, quite literally, a PLAN.

Many times, journaling is a healing process. 

And painful. Many times, you’ll need to rely on the full armor of God to look straight in the face of that pain and say, “I OWN YOU.” And mean it.

Through the bouts of pain, you’ll look back and discover that the secrets to your success was WITHIN YOU the entire time.

You simply needed to unlock that part of you by releasing what was keeping it covered up.

It took massive vision and faith. And it wouldn’t happen with vision and faith alone... All out massive action was a non-negotiable!

Here’s one thing I am embarrassed to share, but it’s just who I am:

My work space is a MESS!

Piles here, there, and everywhere.
It’s even a joke in my family.

However, if I allowed my energy to go there and get fractured all over the place I wouldn’t be serving at my highest level. I could fall apart over how messy my life can be, but where would that get me?

So instead, I got over my belief that it was selfish and lazy to DELEGATE and I hired someone who is great at organizing, finds it easy to do, and who actually enjoys it!

I even hired a personal stylist/shopper. She is a whiz and takes away my anxiety and stress as I prepare for live events, leader retreats, photo shoots, and traveling. She helps me figure out what to wear and what to pack so it's one less thing I stress over. (Love you Kate Taylor, Personal & Brand Stylist😘)

No matter where you are in your business right now, it’s time to delegate what doesn’t require your personality! When I first started in network marketing, we were 6-figures in debt, but I hired a neighbor to come in and do our laundry.

It's not crazy - it's smart business. I made a goal to earn a full-time income working part time hours. Because I used my work-time ONLY for income producing activities, I hit that goal within 90 days and could start to breathe.

I delegate and outsource as many tasks as possible. This gives work opportunities to those who truly love doing those tasks, and it frees me up to serve within MY super power.

MILLIONAIRE TIP: When you delegate and outsource, you are LITERALLY buying yourself TIME. And time is the most valuable asset you have! Being able to buy it, is priceless!
