6 tips to Beat an Afternoon Slump

IT’S 2 O’CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON.

Do you know where your energy is?

You know that feeling: sluggishness, difficulty focusing… you’ve hit the dreaded afternoon slump.

Many factors can affect your energy levels throughout the day, including your diet, your quality of sleep, your activity level and even how much time you spend staring at a computer screen.

Here are 6 tips to pull yourself out of a slump.

One of the best ways is to give your body the nutrients it craves.

Drink your GREENS... I drink a powdered blend of greens, fruits, probiotics and herbal extracts designed to alkalize and energize the body. It contains a pH-balancing blend of botanical herbs, fruits, vegetables, enzymes, probiotics, and super green grasses that packs a healthy punch of phytonutrients including green tea leaf powder and spinach leaves (which are a great source of energy-boosting B Vitamins).

Try these tricks when you feel your energy waning:

Get Moving

Exercise increases blood flow not just to your muscles, but your brain, too, which can help you feel less tired. Head to the gym for a quick workout during your lunch break to keep your focus and productivity up throughout the afternoon.

Can’t get to the gym? Take a short walk around the block, or even just spend a few minutes doing some stretches. Stretching sends blood and nutrients to your muscles, which delivers a quick surge of energy.

Step Outside

A simple change of venue can give your energy a boost, especially if you step into nature. Studies show that just five minutes outdoors can improve your mood! Sunlight naturally helps you feel more alert, as it signals to your brain that it’s time to wake up. When you get back to your desk, you’ll feel refreshed and energized.

Hydrate

It’s easy to forget just how important hydration is to keep your body functioning properly. Dehydration can cause fatigue and difficulty focusing, so reach for your water bottle at the first sign of sluggishness. (But don’t wait until then! Keep a reusable water bottle nearby so you can stay hydrated all day and stave off the afternoon slump.)

Skip the Sugar

When the midday doldrums hit, it’s tempting to reach for a sugary snack or beverage. While a little something sweet might perk you up in the short term, it can end up doing more harm than good. Avoid the dreaded sugar crash (and the extra calories) by steering clear of sweet treats and go for a healthy, high-protein snack instead.

Listen to Music

Studies show that music can improve your mood and increase productivity, so put on those headphones and crank up the tunes — especially if you have a few favorite songs that pump you up! If what you’re doing requires intense focus, stick to instrumental music.

But the best way to conquer the midday crash is to prevent it altogether!

Give your body the nutrition it needs with supplements that fill in your nutritional gaps to help you achieve peak physical and mental levels. Look for supplements that are SIMPLE to do every day and packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, probiotics and plant extracts that deliver all-day energy to boost productivity and focus so you can beat the afternoon slump!
