This may sound a bit woo-woo (whatever, I am a bit woowoo 😂) but did you know that your intentions tie into your health and wellness goals? It's true!
When you set a clear intention, you’re sending a signal to your brain that says, “Hey, this is important!” 🧠 And guess what? Your brain starts to filter out distractions and align your actions with that intention. It's so cool!
Setting intentions is about getting clear on what we want and why we want it. It’s like planting seeds in a garden 🌻and those seeds are your intentions. With the right care and focus, they grow into the results you’re after.
For example, let’s say your goal is to feel more energized throughout the day (who doesn’t want that?!). By setting the intention to prioritize energy-boosting habits, like drinking more water, moving your body daily, taking your morning supplements, or getting to bed earlier, you’re giving yourself a clear path to follow. And EVERY time you choose water over a sugary drink or doing your vitamin routine first thing in the morning, you’re reinforcing that intention.
But how do you actually set intentions in your everyday life?
Here's how to set intentions that work:
1. Start Your Day with a Morning Ritual 🌅
One of the best times to set intentions is first thing in the morning. Before you even get out of bed, take a moment to ask yourself, “What do I want to focus on today?” This could be anything from feeling energized, staying calm, or staying on track with mindful eating. Say your intention out loud, write it down, or even just think about it as you sip your morning shake. This sets a positive tone for your day and helps you stay aligned with your goals. I have been taking the same supplements every morning for over 10 years now, and I can truly say it's made a HUGE difference in the rest of my day!!
2. Use Visual Reminders 🖼️
Sometimes, we need a little nudge to keep our intentions top of mind. You can create visual reminders like sticky notes on your mirror, a wallpaper on your phone, or even a bracelet or piece of jewelry that symbolizes your intention. Every time you see that reminder, it’s a gentle tap on the shoulder to stay focused on what you’re trying to achieve. For example, if your intention is to drink more water, put a sticky note on your water bottle that says, “Stay hydrated!” If your intention is to be more mindful of your eating, put a sticky note on your pantry or fridge that reminds you of your goals!
3. Reflect and Reset Throughout the Day 💭
Life gets busy, and it’s easy to drift away from our intentions as the day goes on. That’s why it’s helpful to take a few minutes at lunchtime or during an afternoon break to check in with yourself. Ask, “How am I doing with my intention today?” If you’ve gotten off track, that’s okay! Just reset and refocus. Maybe take a few deep breaths, stretch, or step outside for some fresh air.
4. End Your Day with Gratitude 🫶🏻
At the end of the day, spend a few minutes reflecting on how your intentions played out. Did you stick to them? How did they make you feel? Even if the day didn’t go perfectly, celebrate the small wins and acknowledge your efforts. This practice not only reinforces your intentions but also helps you go to bed with a positive mindset.
5. Tie Intentions to Actions 🎯
This is a HUGE part of why people don't achieve their goals – intentions work best when they’re tied to action. For example, if your intention is to reduce stress, you might set the action of taking a walk or practicing deep breathing exercises before bed. If your intention is to be more mindful of your eating, you might set the action of meal-planning your entire day's worth of food. By linking your intention to a concrete action, you’re more likely to follow through and set yourself up for success.
6. Be Kind to Yourself 🌸
Lastly, remember that setting intentions isn’t about being perfect. It’s about staying mindful and making conscious choices that align with how you want to feel. If you slip up, don’t sweat it—just guide yourself back to your intention and keep going. Every day is a new opportunity to practice, grow, and get closer to your health and wellness goals.
When you set intentions, you're not just checking off boxes; you're creating a roadmap that aligns with the life you want to live. And the best part? Even on those tough days (because let’s be real, we all have them), your intentions can be a north star to keep you on track.
Take a moment today to think about your intentions. Write them down, say them out loud, or even share them with a friend. I'd also love for you to share them with me!! Write back and let me know what some of your intentions are! 🎉
